GEAR-UP Announcements:
>Students from the 7th and 8th grades and their chaperones had a GREAT time going to see "We Are Marshall" and then going to lunch at Muriale's restaurant on Friday, January 12. Check the photo page soon for some pictures of the trip! ____________________________________ >Barrackville Middle School GEAR-Up Staff will be available at an informational table at the February 2nd basketball games at the Fairmont “Woody” Williams Armory. Computer Scholarship Applications will be available for parents to pick up as well as information about the Flash Card programs. Lisa Medina, Susan Boore, or Sheila Toth will be available to answer questions and to advise parents in the proper way to complete the Computer Scholarship Application. ____________________________________ > GEAR Up FLASH CARDS will be coming soon for students and for their family! ____________________________________ > GEAR Up is sponsoring the collection of old Christmas Cards for recycling. There are boxes inside the front door with slots designated for each grade level. All collected cards will be turned over to the Busy Bison 4-H for their recycling efforts. Deadline will be January 24. ____________________________________ > Tutoring for 7th and 8th Grade GEAR Up students is available BEFORE school in Mr. Reed's science room Monday through Friday and then AFTER school Monday through Thursday from 3:45 - 4:45pm. Mr. Richard Hall and Mr. David Reed are tutors for GEAR Up tutoring. ____________________________________ >COMPUTER SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS HAVE ARRIVED! There will be an informational table set up at the Fairmont Armory during the January 10th home basketball games. The main purpose will be to distribute to parents the GEAR Up Computer Scholarship Applications and answer any questions. After that, the applications will be available at Barrackville School. See Mrs. Medina or Mrs. Boore for those applications. They are extensive forms to complete and require a student essay, referrals, and a section to be completed by parents. A Parent Meeting to assist in the completion of these Computer Scholarship applications will be held in the near future. Completed applications will be due in March 2007. ___________________________________ >Families are reminded that free tickets are available for their whole family for a night of entertainment, culture, fine arts, music, an athletic event or an educational presentation events held at FSU and other locations. To request these tickets, you must contact the GEAR Up offices at 304-367-0436 or toll-free at 1-877-385-0896. They are not available through Barrackville School. Ticket Requests are limited to: ONE request per type of event (1)Fine Arts Performances/Cultureal Events, (2) Educational Presentation and Guest Speakers, or (3) Sporting Events at FSU, per school year, per family, per school campus. Ticket request must be made one week in advance. Seating is NOT guaranteed. ___________________________________ COMPUTER SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED 2005-06 Two Barrackville students were awarded a free computer through the GEAR Up Computer Scholarship contests. Last year's 7th grader Treston Brown and 6th grader, Rickell Boyce applications and essays won them their computers. They attended the Awards Ceremony at Fairmont State University on May 21st
