General School Rules for All
Students:
*Watch that meaning!;
students are NOT to wear items with
insulting, vulgar, suggestive, and/or inappropriate words or
pictures; apparel supportive of tobacco or alcohol products,
either by pictures or slogans.
*Rooms are
air-conditioned; therefore students are NOT
permitted to wear tank top, spaghetti straps, crop tops, mesh tops,
short-shorts, or any other clothing that would be inappropriate and/or
distracting in class. All shirt tops must have some type of
sleeve. Girls tops should not show cleavage.
*Clothing
tops and bottoms must overlap, even when sitting. At no time
should student’s underclothes be visible. Shorts and/or
shirts are not to be any shorter than 6 inches above the top of their
knee. Students will be asked to change or will be sent home for
being dressed inappropriately.
*Not permitted at anytime in school is the use
of: cell phones, pagers, CD players, MP3 players, radios,
hand-held games or walkie-talkies. (Exceptions may be made by
teachers within their classroom only.) It is highly recommended
that these items not be brought to school. Any valuable item that
is brought to school should be kept in a locked locker.
*Also NOT permitted in school: chewing gum,
white-out correction fluid, wearing hats (by boys or girls), playing
cards, trading cards, or laser pointers.
*Students should not use any spray toiletries
in the school hallways due to allergic reactions, they can cause in
other people.
DON’T
BRING “TOUCH” TO
SCHOOL
The newest high-tech gadget
that “Santa” brought a number of good little boys and girls
in the area was the new Apple “i-Pod Touch”.
Not only is it an expensive item, and one that can
be used to listen to ones favorite music and play games; it can be used
to check email, text message, store YouTube videos and access the
Internet.
For all of those reasons, it
has been decided that “i-Pod Touch’s” SHOULD NOT BE BROUGHT TO SCHOOL.
If they are found, first offense, they will be
turned into the office. Further occasions
will warrant more severe measures.
BEHAVIOR
EXPECTED IN SCHOOL:
*Students
are to follow all classroom rules and classroom management
plans.
*Students are to remain honest (includes assignments,
possessions, witnessing, etc.
*Students are to show respect for others. No physical
or verbal disrespect is permitted towards fellow students or
adults.
*Students are not to throw any objects (including
snowballs) in the building or on the school grounds.
All Students are
expected to follow ALL guidelines and policies which include, but are
not limited to Barrackville School policies and updates throughout the
year, Marion County Schools’ policies, West Virginia State Law,
and West Virginia State Board of Education policies.

FREE TEXT ALERTS
FOR
SCHOOL NOTICES
Technology
is now providing another way for parents and schools to be more closely
connected. How would you as a parent like to receive text messages on
your cell phone and/or emails from your child’s school to alert
you to school delays and/or closings? How about reminders of things
like school picture day, IS days or early release days, or major school
events or programs? How
about, heaven forbid a school emergency or lock-down?
Welcome
to the "free" MySchoolAlerts,
a state-of-the-art messaging and emergency notification system for all
schools in North America. Sponsored by American
Income Life, this is a free service that they provide to schools.
Barrackville School is now registered with this valuable service.
A link to it can be found on the webpage for posted delays and closures
through the West Virginia Department of Education. Or you can click on it's logo at the top of
this web page.
Just go to the web site;
http://www.alerts.com/MySchoolAlerts; or click on
the logo above, and click on the “Get Started Now” button.
Before you click on that button, you can read more about the program. When you go on to the next
page, click on “West Virginia” in the
first space and then start typing in the second box, “Barrackville Elementary/Middle School Barrackville
26559-0150”. After
both boxes are filled, click on “Find Your
School”. After
that, follow all the directions that lead parents to opt into receiving
the types of messages you wish to have: emails and/or (better yet) text
messages. The nice
thing about receiving text messages rather than email is that most
people carry their cell phones with them most all of the time and check
that more frequently during the day than their email.
Take your
time to sign up today, you’ll be glad you did! If you have any trouble signing up,
contact Susan Boore at Barrackville School at 367-2128.
BARRACKVILLE NAMED
EXEMPLARY SCHOOL
The West Virginia Department of
Education has set up a policy that recognizes
outstanding achievement by its students on the WESTEST state
tests. Based on the school's good test scores, and the high
number of students achieving the "Distinguished"
status on their tests, our high attendance rate and other targeted
data, Barrackville School was awarded WVDE EXEMPLARY SCHOOL status.
Congratulations to
our students, teachers, staff, parents, and supportive community on
achieving this
highest honor! Barrackville School truly is a place"
Where Staff
and Students Excel & Parents and Community
Care!" as the slogan on the school
web page states.

STUDENTS REQUIRED TO HAVE TB TESTS
Please take note of a change in West Virginia
state law concerning the enrollment of students from outside of the
state of West Virginia: These students MUST have a TB test
and have it read BEFORE
being allowed to attend school in West Virginia. Therefore it is
encouraged for parents to get this done in the next few weeks so no
school time will be lost. Days
missed will be days counted absent.
Free
T.B. tests are given every Wednesday at the Marion County Health
Department from 1:00-3:00pm. They then must be read on the
following Fridays at the Health Department from 1:00 - 3:00pm.
Their phone number for more information 366-3360.
T.B.
tests can also be obtained at the John Manchin Sr. Health
Care Center on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays from 8:00am to
3:00pm. Their phone number is 363-2500.
